Waiving Deductibles
On September 1, 2019, Texas released a new state law called HB2102 – Prohibition Against Waiving of Deductibles. Please read the new law stating that contractors are no longer allowed to waive your deductible or pay your deductible for you in any way, shape or form.
Texas law requires a person insured under a property insurance policy to pay any deductible applicable to a claim made under the policy. It is a violation of Texas law for a seller of goods or services who reasonably expects to be paid wholly or partly from the proceeds of a property insurance claim to knowingly allow the insured person to fail to pay, or assist the insured person’s failure to pay, the applicable insurance deductible.
Please understand this new law when looking for a roofing professional. If any roofer claims they can help with your deductible payment or waive your deductible, it is a red flag!
Location, Location, Location!
This is one of the last but certainly not least important things to look for when trying to find a reputable roofing company. Look them up the roofing company on Google maps, Yelp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media resources to make sure their location is near you. Usually, when a roofing company shows up on your doorstep knocking and wanting you to sign an agreement that day and it is right after a storm, usually they are labeled as “storm chasers”. Beware of these types of roofing outfits, their reputation in our community does not matter to them. As a result, they may not do the same quality of work that your local roofing company will do.
