WHY METAL TILE ROOF
A metal tile roof is lighter than a concrete or clay tile roof, more durable than an asphalt shingle roof, and easier to handle than long-run corrugate sheets. It is the best reliable and affordable roofing system in the market place in a range of designs and styles. In terms of delivery to the job site, a metal tile roof is the most cost-effective roof for transportation and provides the lowest carbon footprint of any roof on the market.
ARCHITECTURALLY DESIGN
Metal tile roof has the most extensive choice of profiles, styles and color options. Extensive research and development in the design process ensures every Tilcor product is manufactured in New Zealand to the highest quality with exceptional durability and strength. The authentic designed profiles and various colors give you options to match traditional and modern architectural styles. When re-roofing a Tilcor roof lets you improve the look and value of your home in a matter of days.
DURABILITY
Metal tile is known for its long-term durability and longevity by being wind, hail, and fire-resistant.
The tile profiles and roofing accessories are engineered to interlock and overlap to resist wind lifting and keep out the harsh elements.Tilcor’s modern manufacturing techniques enhance this durability giving customers a roofing product that’s sure to last a lifetime.
Advances in durability is from the improvements in paint technology most notably the move from galvanized (zinc-coated) to Zincalume® (a combination of zinc and aluminum), which made by New Zealand Steel. The new technology provides robust roofing that will cope with the harshest environments and gives the steel roof a greater lifespan than before.
Tilcor’s textured finish provides added protection by embedding natural stone granules in an acrylic base-coat. A final clear acrylic over-glaze is applied before being oven cured. This extremely durable UV-resistant coating enables Tilcor roofing products to withstand the harshest environments around the world.
PERFORMANCE
Each metal tile is horizontally fixed into battens. This provides integrity to the entire roof and eliminates wind uplift issues that can affect other roofing materials. A Tilcor roof is engineered for Very High Wind Zones (VHWZ) in coastal regions of New Zealand and is proven around the world to withstand extreme wind conditions in excess of 120mph.
A metal tile roof is made from non-combustible materials and the Tilcor steel roof tiles are classified as an “Class A†fire rated. In new construction and in many re-roofing applications the metal roofing system is an “Class A†non-combustible roof assembly. That means it is the most resistant to fire.
Safety is the number one advantage of metal tile roofing in an earthquake. A lightweight roofing system makes all the difference in a quake. Tilcor Steel Roof Tiles are an interlocking roof system. The tiles are individually fixed and are less likely to fall through the ceiling during an earthquake.
SUSTAINABILITY
A metal roof requires less timber framing and less fuel in transportation compared to a heavyweight roof and for transportation. It is more environmentally friendly that provides the lowest carbon footprint of any roof on the market.
Metal tiles are 100% recyclable. The main material of the Tilcor’s product is steel, which is recycled with no loss of quality, and actually is recycled to a very high degree.
These benefits have a huge impact on the overall sustainability of the roofing material in the building industry.
COST COMPETITIVE
A Metal roof is much lighter than traditional concrete or clay tiles and therefore they do not need the structural support that these traditional roofs require. Therefore, the framing can be lighter resulting in easier handling and savings in framing costs.
The metal tiles are easy & quick to install. Our interlocking and modular roofing systems are much easier to handle than other roofing materials such as long-run steel roofing and concrete tiles. This allows the roof to be safely and quickly installed in all weather conditions and can result in having scaffolding removed earlier with money well saved.
All our products (tiles and flashings) arrive at site in one delivery of approximately 70 ft3 per 2690 sqft of roof. This makes a Tilcor roof the most cost-effective roof for transportation and provides the lowest carbon footprint of any roof on the market.
ZINCALUME®
New Zealand Steel Limited is the country’s sole steel producer, operating a fully integrated steel mill at Glenbrook. Using locally sourced iron sand, NZ Steel manufactures a range of flat steel products for the building. The company has also received an “tick†from Environmental Choice New Zealand!
NZ Steel introduced ZINCALUME® to the New Zealand market in 1994.
ZINCALUME® combines the corrosion protection of aluminum with the sacrificial protection of zinc, giving it the advantage of both metals. As a result, ZINCALUME® has a significantly longer service life than a galvanized steel product using only zinc.
This is of particular value in New Zealand where the prevailing winds carry corrosive salt-laden air many miles inland.
